D&D 4E 4e and Multiclassing

I am guessing it will be something like book of nine swords:
Martial
Divine
Arcane
(Psionic- when it comes out)
Working like caster level, you get 1/2 your non-power source levels added to power source levels.
So for instance:
Fighter 12 wizard 8
would be:
Martial level 16 and arcane level 14

This single handedly fixes the awful multi-classing rules of 3.5.

A weird thing about this system is that if you played a wizard/sorcerer they'd have the same power source. A wiz5/Sor5 would be Arcane 10. I suppose only having 5th level spells would be the game balance there.

A rog2/fight8 would be martial 10. Would that mean he could take 10th level talents in either class?

One simple answer might just be to assign classes to "types" (Warrior, Wizard, Priest, Rogue) and then arbitrarily ban multiclassing with another class of the same type on the rationale that you can't multiclass into "more of the same". Doesn't solve the Fighter-Thief problem but does take care of Wizard-Sorceror and Fighter-Ranger/Cavalier/Paladin issues....

A wiz5/sor5 (arcane 10) would mean. The wizard would have a number of spells known and spells per day as a 5th level wizard and the same as a 5th level sorcerer but the character would cast their spells from both classes at tenth level caster level. That is my current best guess anyway.

Source?

I haven't heard this before, but it sounds very similar to something Mearls said about feats on rec.games.frp.dnd.
I dont know something I read on the boards regarding monsters. Besides, SWSE uses talents and feats, its probably just like that. Talents being the "abilities" and feats being the fluff background character stuff. Feats possibly being available for any character type and talents/abilities used for specific classes.

Hopefully 4e will bring back the ability to effectively multiclass. In 3e even taking a single level in another class decreases the effectiveness of most characters (especially rogues and spellcasters). Rarely in my campaigns does anyone ever multiclass anymore. What's worse is that % penalty they should receive for not keeping class levels close to equal, if anything, since multiclass characters are weaker from the get-go, it should be a % bonus! I miss the olden days when a fighter/wizard/thief type character could actually be fun to play and not just the party pissboy.

If this is humor, then you are a master.

If this is serious, then you don't understand a thing about the 3.5 system of multiclassing.
