While I don't own the 4E books, I do own thousands of other books and comic books -- hardback and paperback, all shapes, all sizes. I also live Houston, Texas, where when the humidity drops below 95% we consider ourselves lucky.

Not a single one of my books has wavy pages due to the humidity. A book ought not get wavy pages unless it is dunked in water and then dried.

70% humidity with warping, but the warping is mild and you'd never notice it if you didn't hold the books sideways and check. Also, I left mine in my car for about 12 hours in the hot sun when I first bought them. I don't know if there was warping prior to that.

I kind of want to see one of these books with horrible problems that I keep hearing about. Could someone who feels they have unreasonable amounts of warping please upload a picture? Someone who didn't spill coffee on their book or something, I'm looking for the warping everyone's complaining about.

Very interesting poll... I was out at my local Barnes and Noble on Sunday (one of the hottest and most humid days this year). I checked out the D&D display, picked up the player handbook, and noticed that the pages were sort of "wavey" (if you want to call that warped). They did not lay flat at all. I assumed it might have been the humidity...
Yeah, the pages in mine are now getting a little "wavy", but the covers are just fine. 52% humidity right now, but it was up in the 80%'s for most of the week. Of course, I do have air conditioning, so YMMV.

I don't own the books YET (damn you amazon... DAMN YOUUUU) but i was looking around Borders this morning, trying to fend-off my inpulse buy reflex on the new books. I would have buckled if they had the gift set in stock (since I have a 30% off coupon but I can only use it on ONE item) sadly, that was not the case. And after looking at the books, I definitely don't feel the DMG is worth $35. Sorry, WotC. I'll take my amazon 45% discount, thank you.

Aaaanyway, I noticed every single 4e book on the shelf had at least mild warping on the pages. On some, it was fairly noticable to the point where they almost looked well-used, but no, these were brand new books on the shelf. I picked some up and opened them, and the binding had that familiar 'crack' of being opened for the first time. So they definitely weren't copies that had been heavily perused by curious would-be buyers.

P.S. - as i answered in the poll, humidity here in San Francisco is now hovering around 65%.

Anyway, WotC, I'm not sure what the deal is. It is fairly minor, but annoying. And makes me question the quality of the paper stock and/or ink used on 4e, because I don't recall this being such a widespread issue with the 3/3.5e books.

I took my copies out of their slipcase the other night, browsed through them... and couldn't close the books. I squeezed them back into the slipcase, and when I look at them again this weekend, I'll see if it's a permanent problem. It was a humid day, but I was in my air-conditioned living room.

I think it was 2003 when WotC changed printers to save money, and the books immediately deteriorated in quality. Covers warped, pastedowns coming up, the works. They did work out the problems, though, after a few months, and later 3.5 books were not affected, AFAIK.
