Are you sure? I read that same quote and I think the speaker (James Wyatt?) just made a mistake and said the wrong number of eyes.

Actually, I went and counted the eyes on the beholder illustration on the WotC D&D main page, and I count 10. I figure the 11th is hiding in the back.

I may have overreacted on the beholder. The pic I looked at was difficult to see the 9th and 10th eyestalks, but I've since been pointed to screenshots from the presentations which clearly show 10 eyestalks.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled 4e speculation...
