4e Combat Playtest [FULL]

Ok, horseshoes -- but minotaurs don't have hooves on ALL FOUR limbs, do they? :-S That would be decidedly inconvenient.

Thanks, Halford, for all the links! Yeah, I have several SRDs in the bookmarks of my computer at home. Are you telling me that LEW has a preference among SRDs for the Hypertext SRD?

And I guess that L4W works basically the same way? I feel like I should probably slap together a 4th or 5th level 4Ed character and hope that I can gain some insight from that into how to best use Sharm. Hmmm, maybe I'll make two characters!

Ok, I read the guidelines. Coolness. Turns out that I know one of the judges: I'm in Rhun's Temple of Elemental Evil (Alpha) game with Boddynock! I've seen "Living ENWorld Judge" on every post that he makes, but I never knew what it meant before.

Anatotatos,

I like very much the way that you are using the title of the IC thread go send signals to the players! Not only have I never seen this done before, it never even occurred to me, or entered my wildest dreams. What a great idea!! I think I'll swipe it right now!

The credit for that goes to Victim. :) He's the first DM I've had that uses that method.

I think Graf used that before me. And I've definitely seen other people do it, just not all the time (like only when someone is really late).

Is the thread not staying highlighted for other people, btw?

Yes, I know this. It all goes back to what I said before about not really having any idea about what's going on -- you see, I'm not sure which of my powers/attacks is best to use in the situation, and I'm still terrified that I'll use a daily power at the wrong time and then need it desperately later and not have it! Which reminds me--

THANKS, ATA for filling in the blanks for Sharm and choosing something that had a good result. If I had known that I would roll that nat 20, I surely would have used a daily power then. :erm:

Oh, and Victim, it's LEIF, not Lief, btw. ;)

Well, you have plenty of encounter and at will powers to use too.

Most of your dailies aren't really a replacement for your other powers - they're somewhat situational. Let's take a look:

Victorious Surge and Relentless Assailant have pretty much the same function: they're powers that attack and can heal you at the same time. These powers are great when A) you're seriously injured and B) when we're out of per encounter heals (or near enough).

Carve Initials is some single target damage and an unbreakable mark. So if we really need someone to stick to you or if you need the extra damage from a daily power but not healing, then this is good.

Linebreaker Assault gives you Resist/All for a turn. So it's good when you expect several enemies to be attacking you. It's not good when you're spending an AP or if you've used Blood Iron - because then you'd already have more DR.

So deciding when to use your dailies shouldn't be all that hard.

Hammerhead, your Breath Weapon + Come and Get It combo was sweet. I was picturing it in my head while reading your post.

Kozaar marks all the enemies he attacks.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about! Eiran and Senara are a bit safer from retaliation by that group in the icy terrain thanks to you.

It gets better - his paragon encounter power can come up too. Hopefully his fighter stuff keeps the enemies from moving away. But the difficult terrain you created with Ice Storm should help too.

It's an even better than that. I forgot to include the fact that he's going to do ongoing cold damage each round due to his 16th level Inner Dragon ability.
