D&D 3E/3.5 4E Death & Dying in 3.5 - How does this interact with Fast Healing & Regen??

I posed this question to Andy Collins, the original author of that article and here is what he said;

Andy Collins said:
n 3E, I'd probably just have regen/fast healing apply their effect to the negative hp total.

I'm at -6 with regen 5, now I'm at -1.

How does regen/fast healing interact with the new rule?

If I go to -5HP and someone throws up a vigor spell, do you envision it that I pop up next rd at 1 HP?

Thanks for all the hard work you and everyone else is putting in to get 4e out.

I have bantered with my group about using this rule. I think for the Vigor/Regen I would treat it as an ongoing effect that buys off the 'hp tax'..but does not auto-stablize. Instead it grants a modifier to the save equal to the hps healed.

This makes it highly probably that the character will stabalize, but still have a risk involved with getting taken down.

Thank you everyone for the discussion.

Thank you eleran for asking Andy.

God Bless Andy Collins.

I like that version (basically what Cadfan said) I'm now simply torn between autostabilize and skip the roll, or leave the roll in for as long as they are negative (possibly with a bonus to the roll like Primitive Screwhead suggests.)

All in all, great answers everyone!

We'll see how it goes on Saturday.
