4E Druid Info

Has there been much information leaked about the 4E Druid? For instance has it finally been confirmed as a PHB2 class?
In light of the Ranger getting an animal companion only through a specific build/path, I wonder if that will also be the case with the druid instead of the animal companion being a class feature?

Anyone have facts or speculation to share?

It has been confirmed as a PHB2 class.

Other than that, I have absolutely no idea. Having an animal companion option would not surprise me, though.

I'm assuming we'll know some next month. Ampersand is releasing another preview of a PHII class and, if the other two were any indication, it will likely be a 3.x core class. Here's hoping we'll see some of the Druid next month.

I thought the combo was striker/Controller hybrid with shapeshifting and spells.

You guys are slightly behind on the news; word is that the "hybrid" aspect of the Druid has been scratched, on account of the extreme difficulty associated with creating a balanced class with two simultaneous "primary" roles. (Speculation is flying about which half of the "hybrid" got dropped and which stuck around; personally, I imagine that the new Druid is a Primal Controller focused upon weather magic, with only token shapeshifting abilities.)

Huh. There's supposed to be a leader with a pet. I suppose a Druid might fit into the leader archtype. Spells like entangle and flaming sphere to shape the battle field. Weird nature buffs. Healing could be funny: "I turn into a leech and suck the poison out." 'Dude! Get off me!'

Shaman is the odds on favorite for the leader with a buddy. Shamans are confirmed as leaders and by their nature seem likely to be Primal. Additionally Shaman fits one of the unused letters(although one of the two letters is likely wrong as A wasn't one of the given letters and Avenger is an almost given as one the Divine classes now).

I'm pretty sure that the "Leader with pet" will be the Shaman. We know that the Shaman is a Leader, it's all but confirmed that it's Primal, and I've heard speculation that it will use summoning mechanics to lead pets/animal companions into battle.

I think you're right about the Druid (and the rather controller-y powers you described), and I also like your vision of Primal healing!
