4e - Dungeon Master Screen Review?

The screen is awesome. Its very sturdy, has gorgeous art, and has everything I could imagine needing on the fly. The weird thing? It lists page numbers for more information. Mind you I don't think this is a bad thing, but why not allow page number references in the GSL because "the book might be repaginated", but then have page numbers on the DM Screen? Seems silly to me. They should let 3rd Party publishers reference page numbers. It makes a lot more sense.

Well. I got it at lunch today and I'm quite glad I did (Amazon rocks! 1 day free shipping :)). Thanks for the recommendations. It's a landscape and quite pretty and functional.

The DM screen is a nice, nice piece of work. It's THICK and has surprisingly useful information (as opposed to the crappy, thin 3.5 screen, which had advertisements for miniatures). It's also landscape, which means that maybe I can interact with my players without standing up all the time. Easily the best DM screen I've ever had (and I think I may have had every one TSR/WotC has made at this point).

Just to join the chorus - this really is fantastic. I haven't used a DM screen since I used to run Aberrant games back in the day, but this beauty will be seeing constant use. I love the sturdiness, the laminate (spill a beer/pop on the DM screen? No problem), and especially the landscape format - all my info/dice privacy needs and no obstruction of my view of my battle-mat. Highly, highly recommended.

I'd just like to join in as I just bought it from my FLGS.

Wholheartedly agree with all of the above. The layout is fantastic and seems to contain everything I'd need to reference in a 4th Ed game (not played a game in 4th yet, but it looks great!). The artwork on the players side is excellent but definitely the things that sell it, for me, are the landscape format and the thickness of the screen. I used to love my "fairly" sturdy 1st Edition screen back in the 80s but all of the screens to follow this were (until now) disappointingly thin - I've lost track of the number of times I've knocked the thin, tall, screens over while reaching across placing figures or writing on the battle grid (often spilling someones drink in the process, usually mine). This is just what I, as a DM, need and I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone.

Just wanted to add another endorsement for the 4e screen. I got my copy yesterday afternoon. It's landscape, basically the same dimensions as the Eberron screen. It's four panels, laminated, and on nice thick cardstock. Feels very durable in the hand.

Nice bonus feature is that the panels can be bent and folded in both directions without placing an apparent strain on the fold (unlike the older style thin cardboards screens that were meant to be folded one way).

My only wish for future screens is that the sides facing the players contain charts and tables useful for them, as opposed to panels full of decent but otherwise useless artwork. Many of the tables would be useful for the players to have on hand, and would cut down on potential page flipping.

That aside, this is the best official D&D screen I've seen in all my 20+ years of gaming.
