D&D 4E 4e Expedition to Castle Ravenloft - levels?

Hey all, first-time poster here -

I'm planning on converting Expedition to Castle Ravenloft to 4e, and the 4e power-scaling math seems to be put together in such a way that the 3e adventure could be brought over at various power levels. (Yay for the 4e design team.)

That said, I'm mulling over DMing H3 (Pyramid of Shadows) first. The question is, does EtCR seem better suited to upper heroic-tier gaming, or lower paragon-tier? Would level 10 characters make conversion too difficult? The Strahd conversions I've seen online seem to be aimed at mid paragon-tier parties; should I aim for a level 10 party to start with and just go from there?

I ran it as a Heroic adventure, level 8, but it could work well as a paragon tier.

Over here I suggested a straight math conversion based on encounters per level. While not anywhere near a 'perfect' conversion it does give a ballpark range.


That ballpark puts the EtCR in the low-Paragon tier. I would recommend setting up for 11th or 12th level characters. 4e is really easy to shift in a window of +/- 4 levels, so the conversion should not be too complicated.
