Generic D&D! No fun builds for yoU! I can't believe they're still messing around with "class" skills. Wasn't one of the most popular house rules in 3x were DM's eliminated "class/cross-class" skill nonsense and only dealt with "trained" skills. Anyways, I expect to house rule it right away if necessary (just to not have to play the dreaded "rules as written") and keep my players on their toes. The hit point thing is something that we've done since 2000 (check) so it's an example of our house rules having become 4e. Your welcome everyone :) (just kidding) The only thing I can see to add right off the bat is to eliminate the "genericity" of D&D by adding subraces, family names, professions, and/or clans..but that just adds to background for roleplaying and encourages players to get away from the "we need to add half-tarassques to the class list" mentality for lack of combos. In generic D&D Elf is elf is elf is elf is elf is elf. Fighter-elf-sword-chainmail whoopdeedoooo does whoopdeedoo damage and has whoopdeedoo AC. Whoopdeedoo. Forever, players sometimes get wrapped up in "builds" rather than "building" a "CHARACTER." "Look-ed, I gots the mostest powerful combo and I"m really mature abouts it..and my first goal is to breaks the game and makes it no funs for the DM." I've got this incredible urge to yell, "you're playing a tabletop game with 6 other people. You don't need to pretend that 6 million players out there are going to be amazed by your twinkies. ;) No one is EVER going to buy your D&D character." ;) I hate to sound like one of those holier-than-thou, role-playing is more important than "fun" kind of guys, but I guess turning 36 and listening to kids who sound just like I did back in 1E makes me feel those geezers who lectured me on the same thing. No more fun "builds" for you! ;) jayh
