Don't forget second winds...

Just a quick question from a 4E neophite...second winds are a deliberate action, and can not be done while unconciouse, and use a standard action. Correct? or am I missing something?
(books not available atm)

Edit: Note to self...."Must finished reading thread before asking questions"

That is correct. And they're an ecounter ability.

Unfortunately, mine didn't seem to do me any good. I had hoped that the +2 to AC would be enough to save me. Alas.

Incidentally, the Heal skill against DC 10 allows an ally to use their Second Wind without spending a Standard Action, but they don't get the defensive bonuses. A check against DC 15 will stabilize a dying character, allowing them to stop making saving throws until they take more damage but not actually healing them.

You can tell I am old cos I am all confused again.

At post 96 there was no 'S' and he seems to be there by the next update hes on the map but I tried to find out what he is but I cant seem to discover the text saying it. I get confused by these S, H, W1 etc cos I don't know what they are and the map has a pretty garbled set of pixels on him now. Whatever he is he is bloodied and has some yellow cross marker. So what am I looking at there ?

I appear to be surrounded. If S is an enemy who likes to taste axe then ill prob have a go at him. If he moves to Aridha then am I right in saying that he could start to deliver OA / combat advantage at her as she is immobile ?

As a confused 4e noob too (sigh) what is Marked ? I have been thumbing through the PH but sadly this is not a pwned PDF where I can stab F3 and search for it and they have inconveniently left it off the index. If S turns to go at Aridha then I guess he will be offering combat advantage cos I would flank him or at least Sahyr would be. Am I right in this so far ?

RR - You are not surrounded at all. You are at J8, and W1 at I8 is dead. I (Vatan) is standing at K9 thinking of shifting to stand over Aridha at L10 until someone can help her out. Jude is still beside you at J9. You are in fact unengaged atm. The Bugbear at L9 is (according to the symbology, which I might be misreading) is bloodied although the status doesn't say so. And I also have no idea what the yellow cross means either.

Either way, we still need to figure out what to do about our KOed folk and the cherry-picker that is still running around. And S of course. Like I said, I will shift to cover Aridha.

Oh, and mark is something that fighters (and some other classes) can do to ppl they attack that gives penalties to actions not against the marker. And that should be as clear as mud ;)

I believe "S" is a Bugbear Strangler, who was hidden during the first couple of rounds of the fight. He was probably clinging to the side of the boat waiting for everyone to be distracted with other foes.

I'm pretty sure the yellow cross is the fighter's Mark, which is described on page 76 under the "Combat Challenge" class feature and also on page 277 in the list of conditions.

Flanking is described on page 285. In order to gain combat advantage against the bugbear by flanking it, Jude or Druthruss can move to L10, flanking it with Sahyr and standing over Aridha (see "Moving through occupied squares" on page 283).

Or, Jude could move to M10, Druthruss to K8 to flank, Vatan shift to L10 to flank with Sahyr and stand over Aridha, and Sahyr can stay put and keep combat advantage.

edit: Yes, "S" appears in post 107, vaulting over the rail onto the boat. IG didn't explicitly say it was a bugbear at that time, though.

Mid has the right of it in this post. The yellow cross is Jude's mark. If there is a red blob on him then he is bloodied too, and I just forgot to indicate it in the summary.

I think I'm going to swap out token for the next encounter... I'm not sure I'm liking these at the moment.

Thanks guys. I was reading the PH a bit more and it was saying that I can move through occupied squares but not rest on one so I am not as limited as I thought and yes I can see that theres some space behind me now. So I can just about get there with a move and get to Pier. Someone has to get over there and distract that gobbo or else he will do some coup de grace and get critical damage to Pier which would be the end of him if the fire doesnt get him first. If Sahyr or Vatan moves away then I assume thats an OA so I think that it had better be me and Jude to distract and patch up. So I had better wait for Judes turn cos it makes a big difference. If he patches Arihda then ill attack the gobbo at N11 else ill get to the elf and try for some healing at L11. Since Jude is not at full HP I will shout out to "see to the elf while I bury my axe in that scum !" as a free action.
