D&D 4E 4e interview with Scott Rouse

A TV ad!
I've been hoping for something like this.

Awesome!
Thanks!
(Too bad I don't have cable...oh, well...maybe someone will record it for me)

{Sadly, being serious this whole time. No sarcasm/humor intended. Darn internet, and it's no tone thing.}

Somehow I have a feeling the ad will end up on YouTube once they begin airing it.

Rouse said: <<I would say this year more than ever we’re putting a greater focus into online advertising. Not only does it allow us to reach a broader audience and a global audience, but we’re seeing the venues for print advertising dry up. There are still some core hobby publications,>>

Yes, it's too bad somebody decided to close down Dungeon and Dragon, now there's no place for WOTC to print-advertise 4e. ;)

:D :giggle:

Is it just me or does $2.5 million seem like a really small amount for marketing, especially if they are including some TV spots? (snip)

Yes, it's a small amount but don't forget that D&D is relatively small business with relatively small profits. Even collectively, RPGs barely rate as an industry.

The Rouse said:
We don’t have a product line that that will support, but in the coming weeks we’ll be talking about plans for late 2009 and 2010 where we’ll be refreshing the d20 Modern or the Urban Arcana setting.
And the Lord said yea, let there be 4E Modern, and it was good.

Hella good.

Here's my wish list...

:1: Get Bill Shatner to wear a robe and talk up the bennies of D&D.
:2: Colbert doing a spot on the new edition or interviewing one of the dev team.
:3: Running the flash videos as spots all over the net.
:4: Running the flash videos as TV spots, especially on two above.
:5: "I'm a monster... RAWR."
:6: "I have a problem... OK?"

"...decided to spend" sounds an awful lot like "...that's all we could scrape up."

The timing of 4e is a gamble. The community didn't clamor for it. They want to soft-sell a new edition this way?

Doesn't bode well. At all.

Lottsa luck, Wizards. I'm happy with 3.5
