Flint would be happy with guard duty as a way to see the forest first hand and possibly pick up a few rumors from the other guards and caravan personel

Definitely good with doing guard duty and maybe picking up a few side quests along the way? Maybe we should stop by the tavern after we get the job and see if there is anything for us to do along the way?

reply - hook peak is a scam, but one which Camden has bought into.
its on a fake treasure map he bought from a mysterious stranger.
feel free to use it or make a board-stretcher out of it.

feching a board-strecher, in case you have never been the new guy on a construction crew, is an eternal errand. You know to buy or rent a device that streches wooden boards.

It seems odd to choose what seems the most ordinary hook in such an exciting enviornment, but 1st level characters have always had to be cautious. It may be that im missreading 4e or even Camden's ease at wandering off into the wilds with a bunch of strangers.

It does get us outside the tribal chaos and theoretically better known area around the city. Possibly giving us a safebase of opperations to explore the ruins on our own.

Edit:
Im more interested in the ruins than the orchids, but if there is something really intresting going on with the flowers, I would hate to miss it.
