With almost a month to go before its release, the first preview for The Key of the Fey 4e mercenary adventure is ready for gawking, scrutinizing, and applauding. Designed for new characters from levels 1-3, Key provides an introductory job for mercenaries... not heroes. Play both sides, earn bonus gold and XP behind your employer's back, and earn a name for yourself. This first preview introduces you to Stump, a lowly orc "merchant" who pulls the strings on the Harad'adak orcs of Bloomten. When the town was sieged by the orcs six months ago, Stump came in and set up shop, supplying the town with as much ale as those conquerors could drink. Now he's learned about a pack of cultists in the woods with a portal key to the Feyrealm and he wants someone to snatch it without being noticed. When the PCs approach him, he's preoccupied with a pair of females of the evening trade. If bribing and negotiating don't work, there's the option of charging in and taking out his bodyguards to get his attention. "Meeting With Stump" is a level 2 encounter easily adaptable for any campaign. Enjoy.
