D&D 4E 4E Needs: gathering and sorting info

I was just thinking that EN World might need some folks to do some things...

1) Roving reporters: we might need some folks who are active at both WotC's boards and EN World to alert EN World to relevant threads/info. A lot of us who are here aren't there, and if someone could just give us the highlights or even link us to threads once a week or so would be helpful. Same deal, maybe, with other forums like RPG.net -- it might be interesting to see how they are reacting from time to time.

2) All of the info coming in is probably going to have to be categorized and sorted a little more finely than it currently is. The 4e news page isn't going to be all that useful if the only way to view it is sorted in the order in which it was posted. Ideally there should be a way to see all of the class-related news, all of the race-related news, stuff about OGL and licensing, stuff about D&D Insider, campaign settings, all that stuff chunked together. I don't have a technical solution for this but it will be needed at some point.

Just some thoughts...

With a combination of the GenCon Blogs (as long as they stay up) and the search function being active, it might be a simple matter to have someone periodically search for new posts from the key WotC people.

I know I did it Friday with Scott Rouse and James Wyatt.

Yeah, I'd really like to see a single thread in general, or else have a single page on the site where we can compile confirmed elements and changes for 4E, so I don't have to parse multiple threads.

I did that in a single thread and attached Word document for 3.5, but at the time I was in grad school and had lots of time. I've paid my dues on 3.5, so I don't plan on volunteering for this function for 4E.

There ought to be a semi-static and easy to find section of links to information sources - like WotC developer blogs, and such. And, an index to various types of new items would be useful.

That's exactly what I plan to do, Eric! Inspired, of course, by Eric Noah's Unofficial 3rd Edition D&D News!

I won't be home until the 27th, but I'll spend much of that week working on this. By the way, Kev and I were talking about how much we miss you last night!

A new forum would be a good idea, I think. Also, it should have a stickied thread with a link to whatever permanent 4E section is set up. This way, people can quickly refer to what is known or reported about the new rule set.

By the way, I think the discussion on 4E has been going well -- and we are even seeing some old times like Ruin Explorer coming back. Hopefully, it is a sign of things to come.
