[4e] New to PBP? Can't find a game? (Recruitment on hold)

HOW NEW ARE YOU?

The Past
-- I have played in a ton of PbP games. Servers groan under the weight of my archived prose. Played in a ton of games in 2002-2004.

-- I have been through PbP recruitment and have gotten selected.

The Present
-- I am currently in several active PbP games. Two active Living 4th Edition characters. A just started Star Trek game. A couple games on another site. Also Judging in Living 4th Edition.

I went ahead and made some selections noted in the OP. I think it might have been premature, so I'll wait until everyone has answered 'HOW NEW ARE YOU?' before finalizing the list 100%.

Keia and garyh, you're my alternates, but I'd like you to participate in character creation and campaign building so that in the event you need to step in, you'll be up to speed.

Thanks, Sparky. No problem.

(most 3.5 and quiet 'old'. I'm currently slowly leaving 3.5 games / don't start new ones.)

If you need one, take me, if you got enough first timers, choose them by all means!

Sorry to hear that, okdaddio. I figure a few more days of getting the crew together and generating characters and starting next week sometime. You should still be able to participate.

Okay... Character Creation Rules.

1. I want you all to know eachother (or know a common person/agency) and have a reason to be together as the campaign begins. The examples below encompass possible backgrounds and starting conditions (and are not exclusive).

Examples:
- Residents of or friends from the same village banding together to do X
--- X = Fight a foe
--- X = Leave the boring village and seek adventure
--- X = Find a cure for a sickness
--- X = ???
- Agents of an Authority (Lord/Mage/Crime Boss/Intelligent Monster)
- Soldiers (like Agents, but with somewhat more structure)
- All present for the reading of a Will
- Are all at a Society Gala (invited guests if you have the right backgrounds, otherwise as servants, guards or crashers)
- Inmates in a prison
- Marooned on a desert island
- Refugees of war in a support camp fixing to bug out

Feel free to suggest your own, we'll bat stuff around until there's a consensus (or I pick one :) ).

Knowing I'm an alternate . . .

How about all of us are orphans at the same orphanage, orphaned for the same cause (a war, disease, etc.) that have grown up together. learned together and are ready to strike out on our own now (for whatever reason).

Then we can have headmasters, teachers, other orphanage that can be npc friends, enemies or neutrals.

Keia

here's one idea:

we don't actually know each other, but we all have a common enemy. we all have some reason to want revenge against the city's underworld crime boss. by coincidence, we were each caught in a foolhardy act of revenge, and now the crime boss has thrown us into some perilous situation as punishment (maybe locked us in a haunted crypt, or compelled us to commit some crime and we're wanted by the authorities, or thrown us off one of his merchant ships onto a deserted [not really deserted] island, etc) and now we are obliged to work together to first get out of whatever predicament we are in, and then to bring down the crime boss.

this allows us a bit of flexibility in coming up with our individual backgrounds, while still giving us plenty of incentive to come together as a group.
