[4e] New to PBP? Can't find a game? (Recruitment on hold)

As an alternate, do you want my opinions on the campaign details (likes dislikes, etc) and a pm'ed character concept? Thinking that I might need to adjust to the needs of the group as an alternate, I'd rather wait until the designated time . . . but really that's all up to you, as I could see that you may want minor interactions players so that the newcomer isn't a complete stranger.

@Walking Dad, your concept can be as complete or as sparse as you like. If you have questions about the setting ask them here so I can answer them for everyone.

@Keia (and garyh), please do answer all the chargen and setting questions and PM me a character concept. Also feel free to ask me setting questions as well. I'm sure I'll need to answer the questions you ask for everyone in any case.

Sorry for the double post...

@okdaddio, be sure to read up on the thread (there's not a ton), answer the questions I posed, ask for any detail on the setting that you want (I'm working on a lot of different stuff at the moment) and PM me a concept for the character you want to play.

A lot of you are concerned about party balance. Don't be. Play what you're interested in playing. This campaign is custom, so I'll tune the encounters and challenges to the party.

What is the general attitude regarding Tieflings? Do they have their own lands / cities? How much is 'magic' a 'science' (academies, ...)?

Answer the following:
What sorts of regions and cultures are you guys interested in?

I'm rather comfortable in any region or culture. As long as there are guidelines, I can play off of them. I do liike oriental (I play L5R) or greek/roman cultures, don't like swamps.

I don't mind some sci-fi or anything else with my fantasy. Ancient ruins, fantastic places, are always cool

What are your favorite monsters? Why?

No real preference.

What are your least favorite monsters? Why?

No real preference.

I would love to play a campaign with ______________________.

As I counterpoint - I love psionics . . . usually played a character with them in 3.5 when I had the opportunity. There are quite a few settings I would love to play in. I'm looking forward to Dark Sun . . . never got to play in Midnight or Dawnforge . . . I guess I'm saying I just love to play . . . doesn't matter what's involved.

Okay... Character Creation Rules.

1. I want you all to know eachother (or know a common person/agency) and have a reason to be together as the campaign begins. The examples below encompass possible backgrounds and starting conditions (and are not exclusive).

Examples:
- Residents of or friends from the same village banding together to do X
--- X = Fight a foe
--- X = Leave the boring village and seek adventure
--- X = Find a cure for a sickness
--- X = ???
- Agents of an Authority (Lord/Mage/Crime Boss/Intelligent Monster)
- Soldiers (like Agents, but with somewhat more structure)
- All present for the reading of a Will
- Are all at a Society Gala (invited guests if you have the right backgrounds, otherwise as servants, guards or crashers)
- Inmates in a prison
- Marooned on a desert island
- Refugees of war in a support camp fixing to bug out

Feel free to suggest your own, we'll bat stuff around until there's a consensus (or I pick one :) ).

For Character Creation Rules, I was actually thinking about crunch.

Are we starting at first level?

Are there any WotC sources not allowed for character creation?

Etc.

1st level start with no gear. You will be (more than) compensated. Sorta.

Anything in the Character Builder is permitted, if you use something that is heavily themed to a particular setting, I may re-fluff it or ask you to do so.

@Walking Dad, thinking on the Tieflings. And on Magic.

I like a dark, low fantasy sort of world but am open to anything.

Don't know.

What are your favorite monsters? Why?

Undead - nothing is more fun than busting up some undead/necromancers/cultists.

What are your least favorite monsters? Why?

Don't have any.

Psionics. Other than that, I like a level one start with lots of dungeon crawling.

I'm not a huge fan of psionics, so don't expect to see a whole lot of it.

I updated the OP with some more relevant info.

I've got a picture in my head of a less-deserty egypt... still depending on a great river, but more temperate, surrounded by deserts. I'm working in how the races fit in to the setting. Some races will be astonishingly rare in the setting and, as such, stand out. Choose a 'rare' race with caution.
