D&D 4E 4E PHP cover art changed

I would guess the DM guide would have to be slightly modified as well, since the dragon on that cover is looking through a crystal ball showing the scene from the PG cover. I like how those are linked.

On the contrary; the obvious homage to the B/X covers are part of what made that among the best 4e preview artwork that I've seen.

I'm all for moving forward, not looking back, but a quick roots check once in a while is usually a good thing. Especially when it's something as innocuous as a cover art that's clearly an homage.

I agree 100%. The first thing I thought of when I saw that painting was the Erol Otis cover from the Moldvay boxed basic set.

Well, that's not the reason I wanted them to junk that picture, but I'll take it. Anything to be rid of that awful thing.

The fighting-a-green-dragon picture would make a much better PHB cover.

I am a Wayne Reynolds fan, but I've been disappointed with the PHB cover from the beginning. Not my favorite of his work. I also would love the "Adventurers and Green Dragon" art for the PHB, but I'd settle for a more interesting original piece for the replacement cover. M biggest fear is that the replacement is essentially the same cover, but with the tiefling subbed out for a different race.

Unless the tiefling is replaced with a gnome paladin, in which case, BRING IT.

Its a good thing that its been replaced.

But I'm not encouraged by Reynolds being recommissioned. His general art style offers a repeated selection of the faults that exist on the PHB cover.

Personally, I think they should do multiple covers for the PHB based on where they are being shipped to. Then you would have people trying to get copies of the international PHB. It would be like turning the PHB into a CCG :) But seriously, imagine how cool you would be showing up at the next Con with a French PHB manual and the cover art of a barechested female Tiefling on it (because we all know those kinds of things are acceptable over there; they have nude beaches!!! Lucky...)?
