4E Poorly Rated on Amazon...

A lot of those Amazon reviews are completely bogus. Its obvious in a lot of cases that the "reviewers" have neither read nor played 4e and their entire "review" is BS.

Some of the reviews are well stated even if the poster doesn' like 4E.

However, many of them are also written by people that have either
a)just read the PHB and or
b) neverplayed the game.

This. Opinions on content from sources like this have little value. The opinions of actual gamers from sites like this one carry a bit more weight. The only reviews from Amazon I would listen to would be those discussing the physical quality of the product.

As a person who does a lot of shopping on Amazon, I couldn't help but notice that 4e has a 2.5 Star rating (of a possible 5 Stars).

That's gotta hurt WotC's chances of attracting new customers.

A lot of the reviewers are from Paizo's Pathfinder boards (Hate WotC! Hate 4E! Hate! Hate!) who unfairly give it one-star.

Geoff.

"unfairly"?

How is that?

I completely agree that Amazon reviews are pretty well pointless.

But, I don't think it is remotely unfair for someone to express their honest opinion. Heck, the 2.5 star is probably a quite reasonable tip off to casual buyers that there is a split in acceptance and maybe they should do a little of their own investigation first. They may decide they agree with the 5 stars. But they also might not. It seems obvious to me there would be a lot of people in each of those camps.

But since it's a review on a book buying website shouldn't the reviews be based purely on reading the book that is being reviewed?

Would you trust a review of a cookbook by someone who didn't actually try any of the recipes?

I gave good reviews on Amazon UK and Com iirc.
I've got it, got AD&D form 1st ed. My opinion is valid, wish folk would PLAY 4th ed before just letting nerdrage overwhelm common sense and fun :p
If you don't like it after you play it, cool, no worries :)
