4E Poorly Rated on Amazon...

Yup..you just know its 4E hate when it receives 40% 1 star..and it has 40% with 4 stars or more?

I get it that you dont like 4e, but you could at least be honest in your review.

I think the reviews at Paizo are going the same way:

50% 2 stars o less

50% 4 stars or more

I guess some people cant be objective, even when a reviews it to help other buyers out.

And how about here in Enworld?

Hmm weird I did not find any D&D 4th edition reviews, did I errr?

No reviews at Buy.com, Walmart.com or Overstock.com.

Hmm, I wonder how much those ratings have to do with the issue where people ordered the books from Amazon and then found out they'd have to wait a long time for them to be back in stock.

"I'm mad at Wizards, I'm sitting here on the product page on Amazon... oh hey! Add your opinion? I'll show them!"

Apparently the reviews section is not yet up and running again. But I hear it will be, with EN World 2.0. But don't quote me on that! ;)

www.rpg.net is a fairly prominent site for RPG reviews.

Most of the 1 stars I just read are 1 of 2 types
1: "I've been playing D&D uphill in the snow both ways since before Gary gygax was born and this isnt D&D!"
Very few gave resons why they disliked it other than it wasnt like past editions. Misisng races from previous editions, missing classes from previous editions. Missing spell casting system from previous editions.
Yeah no kidding it isnt like previous editions thats kind of the point of a new edition.

2: "Its just WoW!"
Ok well why is that bad? You hate wow we get it but why? Give some actual reasons for a 1 star in a review.

If you look at the reviews of the gift set, one of the one-stars calls it "A crime against nature." That's about the level of most of the one-star reviews out there: most just say "It's not D&D!" or "It's a minis game, you can't role-play with this!" with no actual reading behind it. Many of the rest just bemoan that their favorite sacred cow is dead ("Dwarves can't see in the dark!" was one of the reasons given to hate it. Seriously.).

And most of those reviews say, "Stick with 3.5, it's REAL D&D!"

Dunno. Seems pretty obvious that opinions over 4e are split. Amazon reflects that. 4e is not universally accepted as a good thing. Thats life. Deal with it. WotC has, I think, anticipated this from the moment they drew up their design. They made a radical decision, knowing they'd alienate many people. Amazon reviews is just an expression of that.

I don't get people here saying that everyone who hates 4e is just misinformed, hasn't properly looked at it or otherwise delusional or misguided.

I quite like 4e, but I can see why people might not like it. It's IMO quite obvious with such a radical approach and to be expected. Why, if you like 4e, can you not just enjoy the game and accept that it's pitch might also raise well founded concerns among other people.

And honestly, the 'unfounded one-star-hate-reviews' should be well-balance with the 'unfounded five-star-fanboy-reviews', so that the reasonable reviews will carry out well the final consensus.

It's pretty sad. I respect those that feel D&D 3.x (or 2e, 1e, etc) is a better game for their group and the way they play, but to post reviews like that, with no reasoned argument or explanation about why they don't like it..... that just burns me.

And lots of people just look at the 2.5 starts and decide if they like it or not. I have been guilty of this when buying programming books. I won't even investigate further at it if there are 3 stars or less.

Fortunately, most reviews of those kinds of books have some meat to them, and they offer a reasonable reason why the book is bad.

It looks like many of the poor reviews were strictly posted to sabotage sales or credibility.

Who said that? We're discussing people on Amazon who call 4E, for example, "a crime against nature". Does that not sound misguided?

Yes, but there's also a bunch of five-star review simply saying

"4e brough back the FUN!!"

Thats not any more objective? Is it?
