4E Poorly Rated on Amazon...

Amazon reviews work through a reader voting system. If you find a review useful, vote it up. If not, ignore it or vote it down (I forget if you can vote down, but I know you can vote up).

Over time that gives a lot of credibility to its reviews, even the badly written ones. But it takes time for that credibility to amass.

A lot of the reviewers are from Paizo's Pathfinder boards (Hate WotC! Hate 4E! Hate! Hate!) who unfairly give it one-star.

Geoff.

If all of the people who don't like 4e are members of Paizo's online community, Pathfinder is going to be even more successful than I thought.

WOOT.

Do you really trust the opinions of a website where Laurell K. Hamilton books get superb ratings?

Hey! Where else am I going to get my vampire werewolf tentacle monster...errr...romance. Yeah.

I mean...outside of Japan, that is.

A review is an opinion. If you don't like something, how is telling people you don't like it unfair?

Worst answer: Because some people shouldn't be allowed to have opinions?

Best answer: Because some opinions are better than others?

Either way, it fails.

After seeing the rules, I'd give 4e a 2.75 (being slightly generous or 2.5 if not). That also happens to be just slightly higher than I would rate most WOTC supplements. Of course, I would give only give core 3e and 3.5 a 3 or 3.25 .

Fun. I can do this too:

"I hereby assert, with no evidence, that the 5 star reviews on Amazon are by people who have not even played the game."

I notice that the people who whine about "haters who have never played it" do not also whine about "lovers who have never played it". Because, in the run up to 4E, a lot people were singing its praises who had never played it. Among the pro-4E crowd, it was fair to love 4E without ever having played it but somehow unfair to hate it without ever having played it.
Huh.... If I recall, I stated that any rating without an honest review is bunk, either 1-star or 5-star.

I think that he's trying to point out (in his own way) that the Paizo boards has fairly decent sized and vocal, (Crosswiredmind I'm looking at you d00d. :) ) 4E contingent.

Also I'd like to see proof that ALOT of those negative reviews are from Paizo posters.

And Razz posting like 30 times doesnt count... :)

The reviews don't prove "OMG HATERS EVERYWHERE THEY HAVEN'T READ IT"

Nor do they prove "OMG SO MANY FANBOYS BET YOU JUST BLINDLY GAVE ALL STARS"

What it proves is that 4e is amazingly freaking polarizing and that people, it seems, either REALLY adore it, or REALLY despise it.
