Lastly, I'm unclear as to what your ideas for character roles are. If I made a super-strong AngryBadMan like Hulk, I don't really think I'd be able to change from a close-combat monkey to something like rear support. I wouldn't want to, first, and it wouldn't really be feasible, second. Could you perhaps give an example of how this would play out?
Good think their is no 'rear support' role in 4e either.
