Even though fortune does not seem to be on the side of the heroes, their combined efforts manage to fell the assassin just in time! Squeal's brave assault manages to wound the assassin handily, giving Thorn time to close the distance. Even though her strike misses its mark, the shrouds she carefully placed on the assassin deal hefty damage to him. Finally, a combined attack from Baern, Torath, and Doren manage to bolster the queen's health and smite the assassin down. As silently as they came, the monstrous plant creatures dissolve into large puddles of black and green ooze. It seems as if they were held together only by the will of their master. The killer's face morphs into its natural state: a hollow-cheeked, gray-eyed creature with thin features and a frighteningly dead stare. Queen Springseer looks down at the unconscious assassin with an expression of pure terror. "This was the monster they sent to kill me? This foul creature has fallen, thanks to you, my friends." Springseer looks at you with a grateful (but shaken) expression. "You may take this cretin prisoner. I imagine you have many questions for him. He mentioned something about your friend. Perhaps the wizard was the one who provided him the intelligence you need. I will have my rangers pursue the wizard and capture him for questioning. Deal with them as you please, and then join me at the banquet tonight." The Queen summons Bounder and another ranger, who tear off into the woods, brandishing their bows, seeking Thomas the wizard - the one who may have sold the Queen's life to the would-be murderer. You are escorted with the unconscious assassin to an isolated area of the White Vale. The guards leave you in peace. Slowly, the assassin begins to awaken. Groggily, he asks, "Gods be damned. I've failed, haven't I?" [sblock=Doren]Also, Doren gains a Hero Point for exceptional valor in combat![/sblock]
