Tallarn,

Cool! That totally validated made my Sunday afternoon & evening (time spent "designing" the site and writing the review). :) What aspects of the product are you looking forwards (a little British English for you) to getting your hands on?

I'm glad I could validate you. :)

I've bought it because I need miniatures for my game - I have only 10 or so at the moment from an old D&D box set. I also need some maps and so forth so that I can run my own games.

the other reason I'm buying stuff is that I have these Amazon vouchers to spend and I have a big D&D splurge to spend them on. I think I've got EVERYTHING I might need now (apart from More Miniatures, and those can follow) till the end of the year - 2009 might see me getting some more stuff, but mostly the P1 - P3 adventures.

So - I'll be sure to let everyone know what I think of everything!

If you are looking to patronize a local store, I know that Borders carries D&D miniatures. That's where I got my hands on the product that I reviewed. I'd be shocked if you have game stores in the area that do not sell D&D minis. D&D minis are a fairly good "profit margin" for stores; similar to Heroclix and Collectible Card Games.

So maybe local book stores if you don't have a game store (or a game store w/o its head up its arse).

There's one store selling D&D books in the entire city and a few more specialized in anime/manga/general merchandising. Neither of both got any boxes remaining.

I got a friend who bought some pack with ~15 random minis a few years ago, but since then, no store brings them.

I just want them for my 3.x/4e games. I started using minis for my 3.5 last year and I plan to use them in every single fight. I'm using some recoloured Warhammer (40k and fantasy) miniatures, but I don't really like Imperial Guard's Special Assault unit as kobolds.

Cool. One cheap alternative for folks is to check out www.ebay.com and look for common sets and uncommon sets. With common sets, you can generally get them for 50 cents per mini, and uncommons for 1.00 per mini.

The Underdark Uncommon Set is being offered for $22.75 (including shipping)

Also searching for "DDM lot" on ebay.com or whatnot can get you a bunch of minis in a hurry (if you aren't as concerned about DDM the game and more want minis for your tabletop game)

I quit buying random sets a while back and switched to just Ebay. You can get just the ones you want, and how many, and although you might end up paying a little more, you don't get 3 of something you never wanted in the first place. And as much as i love the DDM stuff, it has its share of crap in every set as well.

The problem I got with Ebay are the shipping costs.

The booster packs cost 18€ here in Spain, less than 7€ if I order from Amazon.com. I can deal with the shipping costs, but not from Ebay, since it's like 3€ per mini.

EDIT: Rechecked the price. Booster pack is 13.95€, while the starter set is 22,95€. I just ordered the starter set and the booster pack from amazon.com. 21,38€ both, including shipping costs.

If it wasn't because my friends are totally clueless about English, I would buy the books in English. The core books will cost me 35€ each, while at US they cost ~27€, way less if I order it from amazon.com(17€+shipping costs). That if they get released this year or something, because Devir hasn't answered my e-mail about when do they plan to release the Fourth Edition.

Ah well...
