4th Ed. Book Spine Covers

I also noticed the color descrepencies and was slightly peeved. It's not something many people would necessarily pick up on, but those of us with an overly orderly brain notice it straight away... and it niggles at the back of our minds every time we see it. It's the same reason why I have an urge to rearrange and reorder the D&D books on the shelves at Barnes & Noble whenever I'm there... making sure all the books of a similar type are all found together. ;)

But it's just one more confirmation of what I've always known... my alignment is Lawful Neutral. LOL.

Never noticed it and can't recall the colors off-hand while at work. I almost never have the books together though, so I'm not surprised I didn't notice it.

I was a graphic designer before working at WotC, so all the little discrepancies between color and font size bugged me a bit. Still, I much prefer it over 3rd, where any given spine might be radically different from the next as long as it is brown.

I actually recall many of the 3e supplement 'series' having some internal consistency. For example, the Complete & Races of... series had the same style and color, the Forgotten Realms books each had the same style and color; Eberron books had identical stylings but varying colors.

Off the top of my head, I can think of 2 major inconsistencies. I don't believe the core books had similar spines, but they were similar in that they were each designed as detailed faux-grimoires (as opposed to most other books which had some nominal faux-grimoire dressing but were really quite plain). The other monster manuals followed this pattern as well.

The other major inconsistency were books such as Ghostwalk and Tome of Magic which were standalone. It actually annoyed me a bit when Tome of Battle: The Book of 9 Swords was released and was more consistent with the overall line, rather than being styled after Tome of Magic or even being itself unique.
