If WotC did their part... (It appears that they didn't)
I'm starting to think they just made everything from the old books uncommon. :(

The Gauntlet's of Ogre Power are also rare, but they are so bad they barely deserve to be called rare.

Isn't that the case with basically every rare on the list? People are not going to be excited to get most of these things except for the increased amount of residuum they turn into when you disenchant them.

Most of the rare items have sucked immensely and it has made me wonder what on earth wizards meant by "Character defining", but the ogre gauntlet's are especially bad. I mean if there is a rare item that is worse, I would be amazed.

The whole Rare Uncommon COmmon thing would have been a lot better if Wizards had gone back to the PHB, AV and AVII and actually listed what was what. Not doing so has made the new system totally useless.

I think if they'd done that with the sort of standards that they've applied so far, nothing would have improved. No one who has been working with rarities to date seems to have a clue what constitutes a good item (or even a game-changing item) that requires a higher rarity so that everyone doesn't just go out and get one.

Additionally most magic items are bad.

Seriously, I think the only real hope for a fix was the mord's magic items book.

I'm going through the Compendium... Maybe I'll find some.
