The rule 1st diagonal step is 5 foot, the second 10, the third is 5 etc is in PHB v3.5 on page 147 top right

I still belive the fact. It sounds quite cool na d quite mathematical correct. ( more than 5-5-5- or 10-10-10-10. ot 5-10-10-10 )
