Rules light is a two edged sword. Rules light games can become VERY bland if the players aren't being creative. On the other hand, creative narration isn't constrained by the mechanics, so it lends itself well to extensive color.
I agree. This goes for roleplaying too. I think both being creative and roleplaying to add excitement is something that can be encouraged and nurtured.
For my players, if they haven't played much or aren't sure about their creativity or roleplaying abilities I always send them links to some of the live-streaming games that have good examples of creative play or roleplaying.
