I'm currently playing a lvl 4 High Elf Wizard in my local D&D 5e campaign and I'm looking for recommendations on very good Wizard spells to have loaded up and/or great spell combos.

So post away here and let's discuss!

Be aware that any unusual spell combination may not work as you expect it. Thanks to the emphasis on individual DM rulings over strict rules-as-written, anything that seems too powerful is likely to backfire.

Hold Person + Any Dex Save Spell (Like Disintegrate, Fireball, etc).
Force Cage + any persistent damage spell (like Moonbeam).
A couple of high damage spells + sleep. (At lower levels).

Find Familiar + anything requiring a spell attack e.g. Fire Bolt, Ray of Frost and Witch Bolt.

How? Summon an owl as your familiar. It can't attack but it can use the Help action. Order it to fly in, Help and fly out. Its movement away doesn't provoke because it has Flyby. Ready your spell for when your owl Helps and you'll get advantage. Best of all, you can do it every round.

Of course, if a monster uses a ranged attack on your familiar or readies an action of its own to attack your familiar as it approaches, it's pretty likely your familiar will be killed. But few monsters want to expend an action in combat getting rid of something that isn't harming them directly when other opponents are.

Didnt it only work on delivering touch spells?

Be careful, you need to Concentrate to Ready a Spell and therefore cannot combine this Tactic with many other Spells.

That's true. If you're already concentrating on a spell and want to maintain it, you can't ready another spell. But if not, you're fine. Note that you can ready a spell that requires concentration just as you can other spells. For example, you can ready Witch Bolt if you want.

Of course, using this tactic risks losing the spell if you take damage and fail your Con check while you're readying. But if you're using a cantrip such as Fire Bolt, it doesn't matter much. No slots are expended. You can try again next round.

Enlarge/Reduce (used to reduce an enemy), then web.

My players accidentally discovered how amazing this combo was when they used it to pin down Venomfang at 4th level. They suffered exactly one hit from the dragon during the fight by staying out of range of his breath weapon, as well as because the dragon was limited to wasting his actions to try to escape with disadvantage on his rolls thanks to reduce.

They also accidentally pinned down Glasstaff, their zombie minion (the cleric was 5th level), in melee with the dragon. Venomfang didn't waste actions trying to kill the zombie, because the party's ranged attacks were far worse, and it turns out zombies are totally immune to green dragons' breath weapons.
