5ft step and move

No problem. It's probably one of the few times that I've been able to answer a question rather than ask one on this forum! :D

Withdrawing may not be the only way to do it. Tumbling is an option as diaglo has suggested. Withdrawing is the most common and probably the easiest option though.

What exactly are they still fighting about? Are you in the middle of a gaming session at the moment?

We are in the middle of the game.

He thinks he should be able to take a 5ft step and then move again. DM is saying you can only make a 5ft step. I know the DM has final say.

He is wrong according to both the rulebook and the DM. Stuff his mouth full of cheetos to shut him up, and continue with the game.

The simplest move action is moving your speed. If you take this kind of move action during your turn, you can't also take a 5-foot step.

You can't take a 5-foot step during the same round in which you withdraw.

Well make sure that you point out that the Withdraw action specifically states that you can't make a 5ft step when you use that action.

This link on when you can take a 5ft step should be useful. ;)

Sorry, it's either a step or a move on his turn. He can't do both. If his character travels 10 feet or more, then it is considered a move on his turn.
