What is the standard way to abbreviate Megabyte? Is it Mb? or MB? mb?

What about Kilobyte, and just byte.

It might matter if you were talking about something like network bandwidths or modem speeds. However, in this context, noone is going to be confused whether you use Mb or MB. Trust me on this.

Actually console owners who still use carts might get confused...

Games on cart always state size in "megs" and are in fact using Mb, but intending you to think they are meaning MB, and hence think they've created 8 times more than they have...

OK, so maybe this is now a case of "used to always"...

Actually, kB and kb are standard... or at least were. Most people don't seem to notice the conventions anymore.
