97: Heart of the Iron God

Have this adventure all prepared to run and I suddenly realized it has a major flaw:

The adventure features a colossal, giant robot. It's listed as 20x20 facing so a leg is about 10x10 or so I'm thinking.

It's an adventure for 13th level characters. A 13th level caster can cast disintegrate. Zzzzt! The wizard disintegrates a leg, the knee is gone, robot crashes to the ground, adventure over.

Anybody run into this problem and have a nice way around it?

Isn't a robot, a construct and therefore counts as a creature and so would just take 2d6 points of damage per caster level?

If its an object then it still gets a Fortitude save and if it passes then it just takes 5d6 damage.

I'll check the adventure when I get home.

I haven't run the adventure, but one possible way around that problem might be to have the entire robot under the effects of a permanent greater spell immunity spell. Depending upon caster level, you could also throw a number of other spells on the list that would no longer affect the robot (or at least its exterior): acid fog, Melf's acid arow, whatever you thought might take the robot out before the PCs were forced to confront it from the inside.

I've been home and checked its a construct and therefore a creature and so takes 2d6 per caster level maximum of 40d6 damage.

You can't Disintegrate just a 10ft cube (for example one of its feet) as it doesn't count as an object. Still that's an average of 140 points of damage to it, nearly half its hit points, but its immune to massive damage and also has Spell Resistance 26, so you might have trouble using spells against it.

Oh. Right. Duh.

It is defined as a construct in the module so it just takes damage, rather than knocking out a 10x10 section.

Thanks.
