9th Level Spell Choices

I know that he would not allow shapechange in that fashion. If it is over the top, he usually says no. Interesting solution though.

If I take shapechange, can I become turn into a Tarrasque? I know that I wouldn't get all of it's characteristics, but I think I should be able to get all of the (EX) special abilities. That would be awesome :D

What else could I turn into that would be sweet? Dragons? etc?

Time stop is very good. It immensely increases your attack power but is more versatile than a simple direct damage spell.

It would depend on your current spells to some extent, but I would go with Shapechange.

Wish costs too many XP to use regularly. Wait until your next 9th level spell for that.

Shapechange gives you a wide variety of shapes you can take. It can do more than a Druid's Wildshape ability and has a reasonable duration (about 3 hours depending on level). It is a very flexible spell, useable for a lot more than just straight combat. The last point in its favor is that it is a lot of fun, switching shapes at will and picking up a lot of Extraodinary Abilities as you go.

Time Stop is a more limited spell. About the only uses for this are combat and evading someone. More than likely, you have enough combat abilities in the group where you could get by without Time Stop. Take something more fun.

I I'm sure someone can point you to a weights table, but I suspect that 1 cubic foot of rock probably comes in around 100lbs. 8,000,000 cubic feet would therefore be what 800,000,000 pounds 1d6 for every 200 lbs+1d6 for every 10' fallen. So from a 10' drop you'd do 4,000,001d6 in damage. OUCH

Hm. It would depend on the rock, but my general guesstimate from previous experience would place approx 1 cubic foot at around 50-75 pounds. But then again, I don't know how accurate of a judge I am when weighing stuff w/o a scale.

How about changing into a big bit of lead? :) And I wouldn't worry about shattering, as long as there were enough bodies under you to break the fall.

Timestop. If you have some good 8th lvl damage spells (horrid wilting) or save or die spells with high saves (disintegration, Finger of Death), the battle is over before it has begon. You have an immense number of spells, so you can cast timestop and have your enemy death before he stops.

Dont take wish, you are not going to cast that more than once or twice in your adventurer carreer anyway, because of the xp cost. And as a sorcerer you need spells you can cast a LOT. If you need wish very hard, just look for a scroll or something.

Be sure to speak with your Dm to find out how he interprets Time Stop. Some DMs (myself included) view Instantaneous spells as not having a duration, and thus useles while time stopped. It certainly lowers the power level of the spell when you can't cast it and follow it up immediately with 5 Horrid Wiltings.

Also, Wish is a good spell if you already have other things to use in your 9th level slots, such as Maximized Chain Lightning or other meta-magcked spells. Wish's sheer versatility can get you out of a lot of jams, although the xp hit is a toughy. I took Limited Wish with my sorcerer instead. Its a lot less useful in terms of power, but its also only 300xp vs. 5000. :-)
