Jon Peterson's book _Playing at the World_ is a new, comprehensive early history of the development of RPGs out of wargames through about 1978 TSR, and is well-worth checking out if you're interested in the history of the hobby.

Jon recently started a blog with two interesting posts featuring scans of these very rare publications:

- The Domeday Book #1 @ Playing at the World: Domesday Book #1 (DB was the newsletter of the Castles & Crusades Society)
- The Blackmoor Gazette and Rumormonger #1 @ Playing at the World: Blackmoor Gazette and Rumormonger #1 (the BMG&RM was Dave Arneson's newsletter for the Blackmoor campaign)

If you're interested in the book, you can find an extensive preview available on the Amazon Kindle edition page @ [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Playing-at-the-World-ebook/dp/B008PN6K9Y/ref=tmm_kin_title_0]Playing at the World: Jon Peterson: Amazon.com: Kindle Store[/ame] and the paperback version @ [ame=http://www.amazon.com/dp/0615642047/]Amazon.com: Playing at the World (9780615642048): Jon Peterson: Books[/ame]
