Texas weapon laws are pretty... unusual.

Despite the 2nd Amendment, you used to have a permit to carry a firearm (open or concealed). My understanding is that these laws (about firearms and bladed weapons) were instituted following emancipation because of fears that blacks would be armed and might seek retaliation.

Anyway, there's a piece of near useless trivia to go along with the story.
