A d20 NPC Wiki?

Jürgen Hubert

First Post
I found that one of the most tedious aspects of DMing D&D is writing up NPCs - especially the stat blocks - as well as applying templates or simple "advancement hit dice" to monsters. It's not as if the math involved is all that difficult, but there is a lot of it, and it takes a long time and is boring to boot.

And I guess I'm not the only one who feels this way.

EDIT: So I have created a d20 NPC Wiki where anyone can submit his own NPC creations and read and use the creations of others. You can find the Wiki here, and it is already growing rapidly.

So submit those NPCs (or PCs, for that matter) that you have worked out and written in electronic format. Other game masters will thank you!

there is a topic like this around somewhere. Just FYI, I don't stat out every NPX in a mod. Only those I know the players will fight. Joe the alchemist gets taken straight out of the DMG.

It's a good idea but it needs to be structured - I don't find random NPC entries much use. Sections for "adventurers" "mundanes" "BBEGs" and such would be good, sub-divided by level (1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21+)

Other useful divisions would be "core book" vs "splat book" and human vs non-human.

I'm definitely up for this as well. But I agree with S'mon, so let's not post them here (they'll just have to be re-posted to the final collection).

So if we use a wiki, we could have pages for each of the categories, then when you add an entry, you'd have to go to each of the appropriate category pages and add a link to your new NPC, right? That's a bit of a hassle, but using wiki avoids a lot of management headaches that would come with doing an actual database. Is there an easier way to categorize? Do the wiki hosting sites have searching, so we could just include keywords in the entries?
