A Dance of Dragons UK/US covers

Why are there different covers? Are there studies that green appeals to one country more than grey, and vice versa?

The "If I finish it before June" part is what really caught my interest. I don't think GRRM would write that unless he believed he could actually finish it for that date. Mind you, I'm aware it might well take him longer than that, but it looks like the wait before he finishes the first draft is now a matter of months, not years.

I actually really like these book covers.

A LOT... Okay, most fantasy book covers make me cringe ><

Especially the old, Wheel of Time book covers.

What specifically about the WoT covers? I had no problem with Sweet's style; it was his blatant disregard for what the characters actually looked like that I couldn't stand.

LOL I was thinking the same thing. I particularly laughed at his renditions of Lan (assuming that's who it was supposed to be -- he looked like some sort of samurai or something).

Does one scream "I'm British!" when you look at them? :p

I wonder which one us Canucks will get? I think we tend to get the American covers. If I had my choice, I guess I'd go with the sword-hilt one.

Ehh, that whole style of drawing fantasy I am not particularly found of. Nothing really specific just that style of artwork we see a lot of the time with fantasy novels (especially older novel covers) I am just not found of. And when it comes to the specific characters the worst Wheel of Time character artwork I have found is with Loial.

Yawn. I am beginning to doubt he can finish the series before either he or I die. I may not bother with any more unitl he is close to done. Covers mean nothing to me at this point.

I had thought the bland covers were just for the reprints of the series, but I see the new books are getting the same treatment. The art was so great for the previous books, I am sad to see the trend will not be continued.

Yeah. That cover is weak sauce.

I mean it's like when all those 3rd party d20 publishers were ripping off the PHB. "Instead of making a cover, here's some iconic imagry." Ugh.

And I hope he finishes before the election. All we need is McCain to win and George to go pout for another year.

But I'm good until he finishes the series regardless. Ain't buying another one till it's done.
