Second, a lot of us old-timers are, indeed, tired of hearing about the anti-rpg/anti-D&D lobby. It was a lot more prevalent back 20+ years ago, and more successful in its campaign. Eventually reason prevailed, but there is a very small, less-noticed version of that lobby today. Compared to what it once was, it's quite negligible now. That's why some of us say to not worry about it. It had its day in the sun. But, I agree it's probably good for newer RPGers to be acquainted with this group.

While I agree that there are fewer anti-RPG attacks now than 20 years ago (about when I started gaming), I respectfully disagree that gaming advocacy is no longer needed. I have recent articles from widely read and respected magazines and newspapers that derogate gaming and gamers. There may not be as many people who believe that we're homicidal Satanists as there once was, but I'm pretty sure that gaming is still denigrated as a hobby and largely misunderstood. There's still a great deal we can do to reverse this.

Suing Chick would accomplish one thing for WotC: giving Chick more attention than he already gets, and maybe even national media attention at that. If Wizards wants the impact of this guy to remain minimal, they'll just leave him alone.

Plus, the guy can't possibly have any money worth suing for.

exactly. the cast of "married with children" would send yearly "thank you" flowers to this woman who lobbied against their show when it first came out. thanks to this woman't efforts, the show got noticed and had a widely successful TV run. if the woman would have just kept her trap shut, most likely "married with children" would have faded into sitcom oblivion.

sometimes it is best to just do nothing.

I never said gaming advocacy was not needed. The point that I was getting at was that getting up in arms and going after those who disparage RPGs is not really necessary, and would, in fact, help them rather than RPGs. The best advocacy is calm, reasoned discourse and illumination of the hobby, like that of Uncle Figgy, not crusading and vitriol.

I sent an email to the website (to the poor WebMonsters as it was the only real addy I could get) not to get into an argument but state my grievance with them..
Mainly being thier facts were not well researched as they say and that they can post this tripe without giving the chance for those targeted to reply.. but kept it all civil adn nice...

IT'S A GAME, there is more danger from the loonie down the street selling crack cocaine to the kids on the street than some board game. If you can't accept that then leave this is after all America. We have our right to play games like this, just like you have the right to be a dumbass.


People like him make me sick. I have a fairly large group (11 players) and we have 6 christains 1 baptist 2 jewishs(that right?) 2 atheists and 1 pagan(me) our group gets along fine. We tend to leave religon at the door on the outside world. I have had people watch us play when we used to meet at the local comic book store and I would answer questions like the whole demonic worship thing all the time.

If someone equates Chaos with Evil, that I read no further. As an elf who grew up around CG elves(Though is personally NG), I am apalled that someone can not realize they are two different things.(Any other reaction I would make has already been cried in defense of this)
