A full nights sleep in THREE hours!

It varies. That said, and please keep in mind that by this point i'm not usually thinking about what time it is, it's usually around the 24 hour mark. I also get REALLY cold and/or hungry around then too.

Out of curiosity, when do you hit that point? I'm just wondering because I've been up for 24 hours straight before in at least one instance and never reached that giddy stage.

I have pulled a few 24 and 48 hour "days" and never reached that gitty stage myself. Usuallly, I just get cranky and start snapping like a starving Pit Bull.

As far as my own situation with lack of sleep- I ask for help and people tend to either laugh, not follow through, or just don't perform. A close friend of my encouraged me to ask for help years ago and I started, aside from him and a couple other people it helped, then life turned terribly bad and I looked about and found that most of my friends (about 90%) were fair weather friends. So now- I offer help, I don't ask, if you feel like helping me then okay, but seldom will I accept.

Thanks for the kindness.

You're a good man, Charlie Brown :)

I know what it's like.

In six minutes I will have been up for 24 hours, with only five hours of sleep for that night. When does the gitty happen? :\ I don't feel tired, just a little eye sting, a bit of lack of water head ache, and the dread that comes with the knowledge that I am gonna be up until at least mid night to night.

I will try to let you know if gitty shows ;)

Rest often, you ante gotta sleep, just sit still, calm yourself, and breath.

Have a great day :D

Hrm...Your entire body gets recharged/heals itself when you sleep, not just your brain.

I think I'll stick to the old-fashioned way, but I agree that it could be really helpful in sleep therapy for people who have problems getting into deep sleep.

Most folks say that they can get along with five or six. I've talked to literally thousands of them. Unless they're extremely unusual, though, what has happened is that they're continuously fatigued and the baseline by which they measure fatigue has changed -- so they don't realize it. They're used to feeling crappy all the time, so it doesn't seem unusual. As Merkuri said, though, it affects the immune system, coordination, emotions and patience, the ability to reason logically... all sorts of things.

So I'm wrong to think that the people I meet on the street and at work are all brainless retards - it's just that they're all sleep deprived, and don't even know it? Somehow that makes me feel better.

I've always thought of sleep as a necessary part of my body's nourishment, alongside food, water, and oxygen. Going sleepless out of convenience is like going dehydrated out of convenience.

I usually get about 7 hours of sleep, weekends, probably one hour more. I don't get up at the same time, though, so I probably should try that.

I have sleep apnea and so far I haven't had much success with the treatments.

I've heard that if you stay up long enough, the sleepy-feeling eventually wears away, and you start to feel "high", like you're drunk or on something. Since you're the expert here: does this hold any water with what you know?

just curious,

That certainly works with me, sorta. I wasn't up all night when I took my vacation in Wendover, NV, but close enough. I usually go to bed around 11, but since it was my vacation I stayed up almost til 5.
