A Game of Thrones - Defenders of the Vale

“Who will you put your money on?” Jasper inquired his brother, pointing back towards Rhin and Ser Rycen. “My money is on Ser Rycen. Rhin is fast, and his style is unusual, which might put him a bit off-balance in the beginning. Still, Rycen is a veteran, and will probably adapt to Rhin's style quickly enough. In the meantime, that shield of his should keep him safe”. He stopped to look for a little while, while the two exchanged their first blows. “See? Rhin bet on speed, and lost a few feet of ground. Not much, and in a bout it matters little. In a battle however...” Jasper was about to let himself get carried away, when he remembered that his brother hated swordplay. Flushing slightly, he looked guiltily over at his brother. “Sorry. Let's keep going, we have an encounter with a studious giant ahead of us”.

In the yard...

Rhin maneuvers more carefully this time, circling and then quickly striking at Rycen's right side this time in the hopes of getting around that battered shield. The quick movement catches Rycen off guard and slips past the shield only to be turned away at the last instant by a quick sword parry.

Lightning quick, Rycen slides his longsword up the Bravoosi blade and lands a solid flatblade blow to the shoulder of Rhin before he can recover from the parry.

Rycen, action please.

A corridor of the Keep...

With Creighton in tow, Jasper makes his way to the Maester's apartment only to be suprised as Mycha comes bursting out the door with a stack of books in hand, slides past the two without even so much as a word, and bolts down the stairs.

Glancing at each other in silent wonder at the girl, Jasper and Creighton knock on the Maester's door...

Rhin Snow, the yard

"A touch, yes? One of three?" Rhin gingerly touches his shoulder for a moment before changing his stance slightly, leaning backwards more with his sword in a two-handed grip. "You are very strong, ser."

OOC: Parry, I suppose, cuz it gives me a better bonus. And I'm trying to get past his shield instead of battering through it -- don't wanna mess up his gear. :D

Edit: Brandon doesn't talk to Lord Horton at all...he's not at the Redfort until tomorrow.
Edit2: I can spell approaches, really I can.

Instead he approaches the training yard, where nobody can help noticing that he towers over every man-at-arms there.

Have any of you seen where Mycha went? I need to stop her from...uh...she has some of my books, he finishes lamely.

Looking back as Rhin and Rycen continued to circle one another Creighton sighed and followed Jasper as he made his way to the new Maester.

The supple and swift movements that Rhin had used in battle surprised Creighton, and seemed to cause problems for Rycen. All this set his mind to thinking. Maybe there was an opportunity here.

'By the Seven, the man is a giant!' The maester filled the entire doorway, and Jasper was reminded of what it was like to be a child. 'He could probably toss me straight down the corridor'. Jasper shuddered inwardly at the thought, and was glad this was their house maester, and not one of Hunter's man-at-arms.

Despite the size of the man, Jasper maintained outward composure, and smiled. “Maester Brandon, I presume? Mycah just went down the stairs”. There was no mistaking the man, of course. “Did she take those books without your permission? If so, I shall have her brought back here promptly. However, let me introduce ourselves first. I am Jasper Redfort, and this is my younger brother, Creighton. We just came to welcome you, and see how you were doing with your unpacking”. He turned to his brother. “Creighton, why don't you stay here and help the maester with his things. I'll go find Mycah. If you are in need of it, maester, I'll have a servant sent up to help you unpack”.

OoC: Assuming we have not already met the maester, and that we encounter him on his way to find Mycah.

"Well met! Yes, I am Maester Brandon. And I can't trouble the heir of Redfort with my problems. Your adopted sister has actually been of some help in unpacking my things...when I can convince her to put my books on their shelves rather than reading them that is. Err...I really should find her, perhaps we can share a horn of ale later, Jasper, Creighton," the mountainous Maester Brandon says.

ooc: We should probably have Jasper and Creighton roll Sense Motive vs. Brandon to see if he can tell that the Maester is holding something back.

Creighton bowed to Maester Brandon as he had been taught and then stared at him for a prolonged period of time in obvious interest.

"Are you really a giant? Like them monsters from beyond the Wall?" Creighton suddenly blurted out, his brow furrowed in deep thought as he tried to understand why his father would want a monster maester.
