A GIANT Campaign Tips

Yes, You read It right, I Just got here a few minutes Ago and I'm going to ask for advice on something of this Level.

ANYWAY Moving On

I have just started DMing for a Few friends, and told them to go and have a Hunt around for any Suplications and Suck (I'm quite Liberal) and Get back to Me. What they have come up with proves the most interesting, and most daunting challenge I have seen in my short career.

A Party of Giants

And I don't mean they play them as the "Fi Fi Fo Fum" Children's Versions and Just Smash, They have given them personality Traits, Ambitions, Everything a DM Could ask for, and That's what Makes me Scared.

Because firstly I LOVE The Idea, Hell, I've always wanted to make a Giant Char myself, However......There not the most talked about of the Big Mythical Races, Hell, The Illuthids Have far more Texts I could use, and don't get me started on the Overwhelming pamper fest that has been given those sad bags of scales most people call "Dragons". Giants appear in almost every Book as NPC's, as far as I'm aware there has never been one at all (Apart for rules to using them in Savage Species, Which I have read) To Deal with them specificly.

So I have decided to ask you some of the questions running through My Head, AT THE MOMENT, It will added to I would Guess at a later date.

The main problem I see is, What Quests can you give a party of Four beings that could Tear through a Building easily with their Bear Hands?

If any of you have any ideas for Quests to Give a Party of them, I would be VERY GLAD, all Ideas are welcome.

One thing I can be thankful for is that They have decided to let me Chose the Race of Giant the Play as if needed, So any Race specific quests are fine.

Next, Weapons and Armour.
This is more simple, What would the Equipment of the Different subspecies of Giant Look Like, What are they Most likely to Wield, Ect

Magic?
This is Interesting to Me as I have Never Heard of a Giant Mage, But I will not discount it, So, Any of you think It's Plausible.

And finely, any Idea or Suggestion WHATSOEVER, Is welcome, Even if It's just something along the lines of "It would be cool if you let them...."

Thanks for Reading this

Humans being humans every generation or two decide that they should no longer toil for their physical betters. Giants are favored by the gods and are given the gift of strength and power unrivaled among the tiny folk. Even a giant child can rip a human's arms off.

A few months ago rumors started to reach the royal court about a human city in the tunnels underneath the mountain. A scout was shrunk, enchanted and dispatched into the dank oppressive tunnels and spent three months living among the simple folk.

In the tunnels he found a thriving metropolis where humans who fled during previous uprising have set up a successful city. The scout talked about the practicing of strange human magics and worshiping of lesser gods. He learned that the meddling humans have been sneaking into our peaceful kingdom and have been smuggling weapons and magic to the humans. There is talk in every tavern about a great campaign to free all the humans.

Now as kind hearted race how can you condemn these lesser being to starvation and anarchy which freedom would certainly entail. These humans must be stopped for the good of the community and for the good of these lesser beings.

The quests will be similar to those that a medium-size party would have. At low level you just have to make them bigger.

A regular party gets sent to clear out a tribe of kobolds, or kill the lions that have been eating their cattle. A giant party gets sent to clear out a tribe of ogres, or kill the dinosaurs that have been eating their dire cattle.

At medium and higher levels for monster PCs, I'm rather fond of the "reverse adventure" trope. That's when a troop of human adventurers busts into the stronghold, kills almost everybody, and makes off with the important magic treasure. It becomes the PCs' job to track them down, recover the McGuffin, and avenge the deaths of their families.

Very cool idea. Reading this what jumped to my mind is a reverse "Against the Giant's" campaign, with the PC Giant's leading the way against the Humans. Eventually they will be called up to stop the human special force teams that are raiding the halls of the various giant kings (i.e. human adventures in G1, G2 & G3) . Who knows what direction the PC Giant will take when they find their leaders are little more than pawns of the Drow?

Well, I can see several ways at going about this. First, you never mentioned what version of the rules you're using - I'm assuming that its some flavor of 3/3.5. If not that shakes things up a bit.

One big question to ask yourself is what level you're going to start at? Are you going to start them at an actual level 1 using a progression such as that from Savage Species or are you going to start them as an average version of the giant type and progress from there (gaining levels as normal, admitedly at a pretty high ECL to start)? If everyone is starting as giants, the latter seems like it would be more fun.

As far as types of giants, I'd probably lean towards the fire or frost (or possibly stone). They are strong, but not inordinately so. The frost giants in particular seem the best as they almost scream to do a viking style campaign to me.

As far as adventures, you can almost just take a standard dungeon and turn it around - a town filled with humans and their allies to raid can be played in much the same manner that most players raid a dungeon filled with orcs.

I mentioned the frost giants above - if you went with a viking theme, imagine a massive longboat of giants going on expeditions to isolated islands holding all sorts of things. Or even being lost during a storm at sea while raiding and having to wind through said islands, searching for resources and trying to make their way home.

Allegro

I think Allegro's idea rocks. I am ready to roll up my giant right now and play in that campaign! Let's save the humans from themselves!
