"The young deity became so angry during the conflict that he ended up punching the Warbringer hard enough to knock out the god and cause all of his clerics to lose their spells for two full years."
Priceless.

A Race that gets to choose class skills? That's a bit powerful as a racial ability. I'd choose this over most any other race, solely for this ability. However, since they've lost Darkvision, and if they were Human they'd have the option to take a number of feats that could do this anyway, I guess it's balanced, on the side of kinda powerful. Orc iaijutsu focus Warblade, or iaijutsu focus Paladin Smite? Yes Please!

This is a cool (Pun) world to campaign in. How many years after this blizzard have passed does your story take place, and how much has the rest of the world recovered?

And where were the Gemcutter's creatures when all this was going down? Useless Gnomes.

That was awesome.

Don't waste this talent as a chemist. Pay the bills for a few years while you write on the side, then launch your novels!

Wait, so this just part of the introduction to your campaign world? Because this is worth making in to a campaign setting in and of itself.

Added in some clarification for that and one or two other interesting bits.

His sons left and were never heard from again, while their clans were renamed. The clan of the first son became known as the East Wind; that of the second was the Blackthorn; that of the third was the Bonesplitter. Vaul resumed leadership of the firstborn until he fell in battle many years later against a punitive invasion launched by the Warbringer’s new orcs.
After his death, he was revered to such a degree that he eventually ascended to godhood and broke the curse that the Warbringer had laid upon the firstborn, allowing them to wander freely about the world. Despite this, many still choose to remain in the southern wastes and stand guard against further extraplanar incursions. Their vigilance seems to have been successful, as another major breech would not for more than ten thousand years.

Which is a reference to the events of Fistbeard Beardfist and the Invaders from the Eighth Dimension.

"and a strange pulsating energy field that causes Fistbeard's hair to stand on end."
Now, with the beard he seems to have, that would be entertaining to see. Hedgehog face?
