A good song to play during an elven funeral?

Right... Well.. you might have a hard time trying to track this down but if you can get Finntroll's "Den sista runans dans" which translated is "The Dance of the Last Rune", it has a very funeral-y feel to it. Of course, it is in Swedish, so that might help too...

Here is the translation of the lyrics, just to help you out...

Lonely rides the moon over the edge of the sky of northern lights
Black lies the forest, under the power of the Frostlord
The path leads deep in among ancient pines, to the land of oblivion and end

The runes shine in the dark depth of the night
They show the way to the seat of the last days
All turns silent to the howl of the nightmare
And the runes dance to the sound of the trollflute.

This night all will end, this night we all stand free
Then the mountains shatter, the sky breaks
All that will be left is fire, dust and smoke...

The runes shine in the depth of the dark night,
They show the way to the seat of the last days.
All turns silent to the howl of the nightmare,
And the runes dance to the sound of the trollflute...
And the runes dance to the sound of the trollflute...
And the runes dance to the sound of the trollflute...
And the runes dance to the sound of the trollflute...

Um Finntroll is a metal band and they made no exception for Den sista runans dans. Why would elves play that? Hell it sounds like its sang by an ogre.

M.C. Hammer - U Can't Touch This. Elves like that song, especially dead elves. Also Ray Parker - Ghostbusters, you can't go wrong with that.

I suggest you check out the a cappella and acoustic versions of "Voices" from Macross Plus, could work real nice if no one in your group is a total anime buff.

Almost anything by Mogwai or Sigur Ros.

Or maybe something by the Smiths if they're High Elves?

"Caoineadh Cu Chulainn (Lament)" from the Riverdance soundtrack. It's very mournful, and sad, and beautiful -- mainly just uilleann pipes. I've left instructions for it to be played at my funeral.

I immediately thought of Enya who can do melancoly without it become a dirge.

I like these (YMMV ;) ). For the songs in latin, gaelic, etc, I have no idea what the song is about.

From "The Memory of Trees"
Track 4 Athair Ar Neamh

From "The Celts"
Track 6 The Sun in the Stream
Track 14 Dan Y Dwr

From "Shepherd Moons"
Track 3 How Can I Keep from Singing?
"My life goes on in endless song/above earth's lamentations
I hear the real, though far-off hymn/that hails a new creation
Track 12 Smaointe

This song is perfect. Especially if you get the lyrics (in French), that is. "Pielorino" Daniel made a translation a looooonnng while ago, but I doubt he still has them.

Mala Vida by Mano Negra is perfect, too, if you don't get the lyrics (in Spanish) that are totally off-topic.

And give a try to His Name Is Alive's song entitled How Ghosts Affect Relationships.
