Pathfinder 1E A gripey letter to Paizo

DungeonmasterCal

First Post
Here is a copy of the letter I just posted to Paizo's messageboards. I know some of you who subsribe have had similar problems, but I think it's time we rise up and really start complaining. Maybe things will get fixed.

Erik, can you PLEASE address this problem? I recently changed my address from a PO box to my home address in hopes of getting my issues of Dragon magazine..not just on time, but getting them--period. I've corresponded with you and the customer service staff regularly about getting replacement issues that I should have received in my mailbox. This happens 4 to 6 times a year, and so far the customer service has always sent me a replacement.

Well, I received issue #333 at my home address (the first since changing the mailing address for my subscription) right on time, and I was pretty optimistic. Now July has come and gone, and #334 has not arrived. I wrote customer service, and they assured me a replacement is in the mail. However, I was also told that this is the last time they will do this. So, does this mean that even as a subscriber, I'm going to have to track down my magazines on bookshelves in a store that only sporadically carries them and pay full price just to get the magazine I subscribe to? And the next time someone in customer service says "It must be your post office that has the problem" I won't be held responsible for my actions. I get EVERY other publication I subscribe to, on time and without exception. It's not my fault or my post office's fault I'm not getting my magazine, but somewhere on the initiating end of things. I was told (by you, I think, but maybe CS) that the printing company you use might be the culprit. Well, give me their address so they can start reimbursing me for the issues they don't send me. I've had enough of this crap.

Sincerely,

a disgruntled subscriber.

I didn't get two issues from my one and only time I got a yearly subscription... never got replacements... so i didn't bother renewing my sub.

Support your local game store... tell them to reserve you a copy every month.

I don't have a local gamestore. I have to rely on the spotty record my local Hastings has for putting it on the shelf. And they don't listen to customer suggestions at all.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but I can't say that I've ever had a problem with my Dragon or Dungeon subscription in the 3 years that I've been subscribing.

If you're convinced that your local post office is not the culprit, is it possible that someone is swiping your copy out of your mailbox before you get your mail? Since the magazine comes in a clear plastic sleeve, it would be easy for someone to selectively steal.

DMCal - I know this doesn't solve the bad service issue, but have you tried buying individual issues online? Lots of RPG web sites offer individual issues for sale. I know this doesn't help if you are a subscriber now, but if you choose not to subscribe in the future and still want to get the magazine, it is another option.

Well, unless the same thief works in both the post office AND is my mail carrier, then I don't think anyone is stealing it. Up until issue #333, I was using a PO box, so the only person who could swipe it from there would've been a postal worker. So, at customer service's suggestion, I switched to my home address. No luck after #333, it seems.

Eris, I guess I'll have to break down and do that. I subscribe to save money, and I really don't want to have to pay cover price AND shipping to receive something I could be getting at a discount. I personally know others who subscribe that this has happened to, I'm just the only one mad enough to yell about it.

I had it happen with my subscription a few years ago.

Coupled with my realization that I was referring to old issues of Dragon more often than current issues, I decided I wasn't going to resubscribe.

It may not be a thief at the post office, but simple incompetence. For years, only two families in my home town shared the same last name. Probably half of my subscribed mail went to them instead.

If someone else has a similar name to you, or even just the next PO Box over, they may be getting your stuff and tossing it thinking it's junk mail.

My problem I know is at the Post Office. I get my Dragon on time, but getting them in good condition is something else entirely.

from the earliest subscription of The Dragon to when I stopped subscribing I never had a single problem.

my subscription to Dungeon was fine until the year... T$R went under... er... whatever happened.. they just didn't send an issue for awhile and then resumed when they had money or something. but i didn't have a problem until nov 03.

from nov 03 until march 05. i got 1 issue on time. i complained and received replacements. but it was still a hassle.

finally something changed. i have received 4 of the last 5 (not counting the current one in the mail) on time. and 3 in a row (again not counting the current one somewhere in the mail).

i'm hoping they have changed things. so far so good.

but with the current issue still somewhere in limbo.. who knows,
edit: i receive all my subscription to other magazine on time. always have.

In the 16 years I've been subscribing to Dragon, and the 5 years I've been subscribing to Dungeon, the only time I've had missing issues is when TSR went into the tank and Dragon itself (not just my copies) was MIA for a few months.

It leads me to think the problem is less at Paizo's end, and more at the delivery end...but, hey, I could be wrong.

What is kind of stinky is Paizo telling DMCal "you're out of freebie replacements."
