A Horde and a Mansion: Prologue.

In the Crypts

Thea finally gets a little view of stone-tiled floor below her, faint in the torchlight. She doesn't see anything but a bit of scattered debris, but at the approach of her torch, she hears some skittering coming from all sides, deep in the shadows.

Up above, Faolan hears the movement echoing from deep below and Razor Fang starts to get jittery with anticipation of the impedning encounter.

"I wonder where she could be going. Not back to the cultists, I think."

Abe follows next, searching for tracks as well and taking a careful look about.

'Again with the skittering,' Thea thought to herself, with the mental equivalent of a weary sigh. Everything they had run into in this Host-forsaken place had skittered or lurched or rattled- there had not been one easily-enchanted beastie in sight. And this looked to be no different...

The upshot of that disparity in encounters meant that she had had to earn her share as a scout- and that meant she couldn't just head back up with a vague report of something skittering about in the dark. Besides, she actually wanted to know what was out there this time- if it didn't kill her, she might be able to riddle with Faolan about it.

She let herself be lowered almost right to the floor, scanning the space before she put any weight down- just in case. Then she carefully set her shaded glasses in place against the sudden glare to come and extracted a sunrod from her pack. The magical light of the sunrod exceeded that of her torch by a reasonable margin- with luck the sudden increase in illumination should allow her to see what was lurking further back in the shadows...

OOC: Search at +11= 21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=963014)(to scan the floor before setting foot on it). If nothing jumps her, activate one of her sunrods for increased light- if she still can't see anything useful, she'll hold onto the sunrod and underhand toss the torch in the direction of the loudest skittering. She still has the rope tied to her, though, and she won't be shy about yelling to be pulled back up, should things get ugly.

"Thanks for your concern, Jonathan" Abe says "but don't worry about me. My adamantine plating, while stylish, is not just for show."

Nevertheless, he proceeds cautiously, holding his shield.

In the Crypts

As Thea activates her sunrod, extending the illumination inside the chamber, the increased illumination reveals that Thea, as she suspected, was not alone.

Six human-sized forms crouch in the darkness, surrounding the robe that has descended, they look enticed by Thea's descent onto the ground of the tomb. As they move foward, Thea realises that they have no eyes, yet clearly know where she is. Further back, still surrounded in shadow, are three larger forms, making ready for battle.

Roll Initiative.

"Oh bloody Khyber," Thea spat. "Pull me up!" As she waited for her compatriots to get her out of this predicament, she thought through her options.

OOC: Initiative at +2= 15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=964408). If her team has started to pull her up in time, shell just hold on and hope. If it looks like they're going to be too slow, she will cast spider climb and start up the rope on her own- if she totally loses out and it looks like she is going to be swarmed in melee before she can act, go full defense and hope.

Hearing Thea's call from the depths, Willow tightens his grasp on the rope and prepares to pull her up "Now, Duneslayer! Pull!"

Razor Fang is sorely tempted to jump down and help, but decides it would be better just to stay were he is and wait and see what happens, defending his master if anything sinister comes over the edge.
