You know I was thinking it would be cool if you know who took the field but I was not expecting how hard it hit me in the feels.
It's been long enough since I've read the novellas to know for sure, but when someone steps up and does the noble thing in Westeros, I start getting nervous for them.
 



This episode may be best in class for medieval warfare on film.

As interesting as the flashback was, I was worried it was going to swallow the whole episode. I was glad to see we popped back to get the rest of the fight.

And man, if that battle hadn't gone the way it did, Game of Thrones might not have even happened. And so it goes.

There's a deleted scene of George R R Martin running out onto the field with a mace in order to maintain continuity.
 


That was pretty intense. I thought the violence was a little too over the top to be believably survivable for the two primary combatants, but it was exciting as hell to watch.
