A little blip on the State of Sci-Fi on TV

Funny, how there is much more praises for Firefly AFTER the show is cancelled.

I can't help but ask, "Where you all when it was airing on FOX?!?!!!"

;)

Well, in my case - I was trying to find it on Fox. Ruttin' fellas couldn't seem to leave it in one place...

Hmmm, I never really considered Buffy or Angel to be "Science Fiction", they are more teen dramas in the vein of 90210, with some horror elements. Same as "Charmed".

My hopes for Atlantis have taken a plummet after reading that article, seeing those rally lame aliens and learning that a guy from Star Trek will be on it. Ugh. I hate it when Star Trek actors do cameos on other SF shows.

I knew about it, but I had roommates at the time who didn't want to watch the show. Putting it on on friday nights to compete with all the comedy sitcoms and sci-fi channel with stargate was a really really really bad marketing ploy and just a really bad decision by Fox.

I am hoping that the movie will be at least successful enough to get Firefly back onto TV so the story can get going again.

It's one of the best shows that was on television, way better than Buffy and Angel, created by the same guy.

I often wonder if people set themselves up for disappointment. Why judge a show before you see it?

I read about new shows and movies to get a rough idea if I am going to be interested in it. For example I am usually not interested in cop shows or legal dramas.

I think if you go into a show expecting or worried that you are going to be disappointed you usually are.

I, being in the vocal minority, was watching it, loving it, and telling everybody how much I liked it, of course.

To avoid false optimism and hope.

If you have skepticism for a TV series and then surprised that you enjoy it, it's a good feeling. Kinda like watching John Doe. (I thought it wasn't a good premise until I stayed up after seeing Firefly, and I liked it.)

If you have enthusiasm for a TV series, but then you watched it and it is disappointing, that pretty much ruin what's left of your day, wishing you could take back the time (30 minutes, an hour, or two hours).

If that is what you have to do to enjoy TV then go for it. I prefer to be optimistic and have found that works for me. If I like the show then I am glad if I don't oh well I move on. I am not one of these peope who go around wishing I had that 30 minutes back. Because I won't spend time on something I don't like. If something fails to hold my attention I move on.

But I am going to maintain that going into something expecting it to suck will often close your mind. It is a self fulfilling prophecy. You are sure it is going to suck so you have already programed your mind to be more critical and so you are going to look for how it sucks. I think it pays to keep an open mind.

Guess you were really disappointed with SG-1, then, seeing how many Star Trek actors they had on (Q, the Doctor from Voyager, and Quark right off the top of my head). Nevermind Babylon 5, what with Chekov making frequent appearances as Alfred Bester.
