A Long Time Gone...

Hello folks.

I just came back to EN World after a bit of an extended hiatus. I stopped gaming about a month after last year's GenCon, and just this week decided to pick the books back up.

The con didn't have anything to do with my stepping away from gaming, in fact it kept me going just a bit longer than I otherwise would have. I met some great EN Worlders, and got to go watch the Ennies. I had a blast at GenCon 2006, and we rocked the Embassy Suites. :)

Then I got home to the great metropolis of small town Kentucky. :( I couldn't find a stable group (more than one or two sessions in a row). My "home town" group still refused to play 3.5 or 3.0, and insisted on 2E or Runequest.

After several canceled game dates, I despaired of ever getting to actually play a satisfying game session again. I got fed up and packed away all my books, and just stopped coming to this site. It had nothing to do with the site or the people, but reading about others enjoying the game that I never got to play was just too frustrating.

I didn't post one of those farewell threads that you see from time to time. I just stepped away from the keyboard.

Now the game has drawn me back (as it always does) even though my gaming opportunities have not improved. So, the prodigal poster returns. :) In my time away from the boards I dedicated myself to getting in better shape to keep my mind off gaming, and I'm happy to report that I've lost 60lbs and am sticking with my workout routine and diet.

I hope to be a contributing member of the boards again, though without the opportunity to actually play the game I'm not sure how relevant I can be.

Hope springs eternal. I can't go to GenCon this year, but next year you can be sure I'll attend (and volunteer to work the Ennies booth again).

Sorry for the long winded post.

It's good to be back among gamers.

Welcome back, and congrats on the weight loss!

I don't have a regular group anymore, either, but I find that hanging around here keeps the interest level up, and there's plenty of interesting conversation. And if nothing else, I can find out about the gamedays!

Don't forget the gamers seeking gamers forum, either. You never know when someone may move to your area and post here looking for a game.

Welcome back! My opportunities for face to face gaming dropped off to nothing a few years ago. Not so much because I couldn't find a game, but because I just didn't have time that I could set aside to attend a regular game. Family and career issues just didn't leave me free time. I discovered the wonderful play by post games here. You should really check out the Living ENWorld and Talking the Talk forums for games. Note that play by post games are in the Talking the Talk not gamer seeking gamer forums. It isn't the same as a regular face to face game, but it can be lot of fun.

Welcome back Lhorgrim. If you are still interesting in finding a game I suggest you post to the Gamers Seeking Gamers forum and then put a link to it in your signature. Then all you have to do is post on the various threads that interest you.

You never know when you'll find someone from your area here on EN World.

Thanks for the responses everybody.

It's good to be back. I have had a great time going back over the last few months worth of posts to get caught back up with the forums. It has been especially satisfying to check back in on the "story hours". Sometimes I'm at my computer for hours just reading about the (mis)adventures that other people are having. :)

I'll be posting on the "gamers seeking gamers" section shortly, and hopefully I can find a game (or two) within traveling distance. If face to face gaming doesn't materialize, I'll probably try the play by post option.

I can't go to GenCon this year, but I'll be there in 2008 come heck or high water. :D

Howdy, glad to see you are back in the saddle. I met you at Gencon last year, waiting for the ENnies to start, wondering if those seats on the side were reserved for anybody or not.

Hope you find a group and game that you can enjoy!
