A look at Malessa's Art Gallery

First off, great work! You're already down the path to even better drawing!

Looking at pictures like Sorcerer_color, sorcerous2 and willow, I get the impression that you start drwing the face and expand from there. My advice is that you sketch the entire figure to get the right proportion and pose before going in for detail. Don't be afraid of doing a stick figure and then add muscles, clothings and stuff.

Valtiger I liked very much. I seems to me you were looking at a tiger's picture while doing that one, and that's great! No artist is required to remember in detail how something looks. Don't shy from using references!

Your pencil art shows more strengths than the colored ones. Invest heavily in your linework before coloring it. The better you draw, the better you color!

My favorite so far: Maridosenbw!

Thank you very much for your time and input! Yes I usually do start with the face first. I love expressions, but I'll try to save the best for last, from now on, thank you.

Yes I do use inspiration pictures of real life, trying to eventually look as realistic as possible in my drawings.

Since I discovered PSP, I did get a bit sloppy and lazy in my sketches there for awhile, so I could hurry and see what it looked like colored and also play with all the gadgets in PSP. I am working really hard on all my newest art to be more patient in adding detail to sketches and clean my lines up alot more, before I go to PSP. There is always room for improvement, and practice, practice, practice.

I do have a question for you, or anyone for that matter. I've been in a dry spell for the last couple of weeks or more. I have alot of pics in my head I want to put to paper(more than I can keep up with), but haven't been quite able to put pencil to paper. How does one get their groove back? Is it me? Or does everyone get a bit burnt out from time to time?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I go through dry spells as well. The only solution I have found is to keep on going. If it isn't clicking then I will do some still lifes or sketching of not so serious projects until the situation passes.

My longest bad/dry streak was probably two days and I just kep working until the muse returned and I was happy with my work again.

Thanks, although my dry spells last much longer I'm afraid. It had been 10yrs before I picked up a pencil last year. It's been around a month now since I've done anything new. Just trying to keep my thread from getting burried with the art I accumilated when things were going well. I've been so busy with Real Life, when I do have time to burn here lately, I've just wanted to breath or watch a movie with my family.....I'll take your advise because, I do want to draw, just hard to get motivated. I know once I get pencil to paper it will be first step, making something will hopefull come next.....hmmmm, where's my paper then.....

Thanks LrdApoc!;)
