A new "Cthulhu" Mythos

For anyone who's played Quake all the way through, and then gone out and found Seal Of Nehara (an enginemod and something like 6-hour machinima intro to a suped-up gameplay experience). Would that work?

Of course, you'd have to do something to make the setting better. Despite having Shub-Niggurath as the final boss, it wasn't particularly frightening. However, you could do something with the concept (presented in Nehara) of a freaky alternate world, government experiments, elder gods, and political machinations amongst the forces of darkness.

Nehara is what makes Quake tick as a Cthulhu reenvisionment, I think. It's told from a much higher point of view than I'd use in a game; I'd go in on the ground floor, where shadowy forces are moving - gaunts, death knights, ogres - freaky things in the night, strange dreams of decaying bleak castles - and the fact is, your enemies aren't just extradimensional monsters and traitors to humanity, they're politicians too.

I haven't played through Nehara, so I don't know how it goes. But if you can locate it, it'd be worthwhile.
