A New Hope Returns to Theaters in 2027 for 50th Anniversary Celebration

I am gonna dovetail on this original comment of mine with this: What I remember finding in the last rabbit hole was this was more a matter of the cut was revised many times while it was in release. If you saw it one the second pass circuit ( which I likely did living in a literal cowtown in Western Kansas ) it was a different cut than earlier in the year/previous year.
Lucas' mania for tinkering with the film was with us from the start.

You can see the deleted scenes on YouTube. The truth is those scenes with Luke at the start of the film would just make the story drag. IMO, it is better to view the deleted scenes separately.
Yeah, a lot of times there are very good reasons deleted scenes were deleted. Introducing Luke before he interacted with the droids and the main plot wouldn’t have been worth the extra time.

It’s the same with the extended edition of Aliens. While there are a lot of great scenes added (Ripley’s daughter, for ex), showing what happens at the colony before the marines show up wrecks the flow of the movie (in my opinion). But that’s a personal pet peeve of mine, and I know it’s not universal :).

RE: ALIENS - I agree with you whole heartedly. The theatrical cut of ALIENS is a lean, intense film and one of the best movie going experiences of my life.

The Directors Cut messes up the pacing of the movie in a big way and while I appreciate the added information, it's information that we as the audience didn't really need to enjoy the movie.

The deleted scenes from Alien definitely deserved to be cut.

Newt's family turns out to have been the worst and were shot on what looks like a cheap soundstage. Knowing that colony kids rode Weyland-Yutani Big Wheels makes the universe seem dumber, not more rich.

Knowing that Ripley's daughter Amanda (future star of Alien: Isolation) died of old age while Ellen was in cryosleep after Alien was interesting, but there's only so many times the audience can be told "THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT MOTHERHOOD!" before it starts to get numbing.

The autocannon stuff when the xenos besiege the Marines trapped in the control room was good, but just like the sequence with Ripley getting debriefed in Earth orbit, it goes on way too long.

The last time I saw the original trilogy in theaters was in Dallas circa 1993. A local theater decided to show all three movies in one sitting and a bunch of my friends and I went to see them. Han did shoot first as I recall.
